THE PARTICIPART PROJECT
1 EURO
1 BRUSHSTROKE
1 ARTWORK
1 piece of Rembrandt for €1
For €1 you add one 17th-century brushstroke of The Nighwatch to the new artwork, ‘One-off.’ After one month, one participant will receive the artwork as a gift.
IN SHORT
I work with 17th-century brushstrokes, which I digitize and rearrange into abstract art. For this piece, you decide how many brushstrokes of Rembrandts The Nightwatch it gets — you donate, I create the composition. It’s the first time I’m making a work like this together with the public. And you also have a chance to receive the final artwork, One-off.

Your contribution makes the difference
By adding a single brushstroke to One-off, you become an essential part of this collective artwork. Every brushstroke you donate helps the piece grow and evolve — shaping the final result and making you part of the creative process.
This is more than just a chance to receive something. Together with other participants, you’re creating a work of art that exists only because of your shared contributions. The Night Watch is considered the most valuable painting in the world – joining this project costs just one euro. An accessible entry to an invaluable masterpiece.
ADD YOUR BRUSHSTROKE HERE
Each brushstroke adds to the composition and increases your chance of receiving the artwork. More brushstrokes, more chances!

WATCH THE ARTWORK GROW
Follow the creation of ‘One-off’ here. A new update at the end of each week.
HOW IT WORKS
1. YOU DONATE
Donate one brushstroke for €1 on this website.
2. I CREATE
I add your donated brushstroke to a growing abstract composition.
3. YOU RECEIVE
After completion, one participant will receive the signed artwork ‘One-off’ (40×50 cm).

In this animation, you see how I collect and rearrange 17th-century brushstrokes. My research revolves around one question: What could abstract art have looked like in the 17th century?
I combine digital techniques with classic brushwork and use historical varnishes to create new compositions. The final artwork is framed in exquisite 17th-century frames, merging past and present in a single image.
Through The Participart Project, we build an artwork together, stroke by stroke—connecting history, technology, and modern abstraction.
WHY
My goal with The Participart Project is to connect people through art—both with each other and with my work. I want to give everyone the opportunity to contribute to an artwork in a simple way, allowing me to share my creative process and temporarily open my studio to all.
WHAT
As an artist, I am deeply fascinated by the 17th-century brushstroke. With this project, I explore its artistic and historical significance and how it relates to financial value.
HOW
Donate one brushstroke via this page. In return, I will add one 17th-century brushstroke to the new artwork One-off.
HOW MUCH
The number of brushstrokes in the new artwork depends on the number of participants. It could be three, three hundred, or even more.
WHEN
The project runs for one month, and the final artwork will be exhibited during art week from May 17–25 in Amsterdam. All participants will receive an invitation.

WHO
I am Remon de Jong, a visual artist, and I digitize and rearrange 17th-century brushstrokes into abstract compositions. The idea behind The Participart Project stems from my desire to create a piece together with the audience.
